Yesterday was the first really warm and pleasant day of the year. With Kay off to New York for the weekend I joined up with some Adv Riders and explored the Eastern slopes of the Olympic mountains. We met up at Loggers Landing for an extended breakfast. I was the new guy on the block and of course I didnt write down the names… No worries, they are all on AdvRider.com. After a great little adventure on dirt and gravel roads I set off along the Northern shore towards Cape Flattery. Cape Flattery is the westernmost point of the 48 consecutive states. Though I have been "close" to Cape Flattery before I haven’t actually visited the point.
The road along the Northern shore is absolutely fabulous for riding. With speeds varying between 20mph and 80mph it is definitely a road for active driving. Cape Flattery is situated in an indian reservation and the setup out by the Cape is quite nice with a boardwalk keeping feet off the sensitive ground. However there is a stretch with both mud and knarly roots so good shoes are recommended.
