I have now been running my BMW R1200GS Adventure on studded tires with ice on the ground and so far I am very happy.

The tires are mounted and work pretty much as expected: longer braking distance on tarmac and some traction on ice. The extended stopping distance on pavement is definitely noticeable and I will have to work in more safety margin when in traffic. The ride is of course bumpier with the knobbies on, but I cannot say that handling is any different with the studs from regular knobbies (stopping distance aside that is). However the rapping noise is the same as a car with studded tires.

More to follow when I have more experience with the handling. I’ll also give a full account of how and where to get them. Now I am just waiting for the bad weather! Woo hoo!
